According to the International Coach Federation, coaching is "An interactive process to help individuals and organizations develop more rapidly and produce more satisfying results; improving others' abilities to set goals, take action, make better decisions and make full use of their natural strengths."
Coaching is best used individually or in small groups to implement knowledge or skills and gain rapid results. Consulting is best used when you need help identifying current or future challenges, gathering industry specific information, and identifying possible solutions. Training is best used to transfer knowledge and skills in large or small venues.
If you want to know "what" is wrong, use consulting. If you want to know "how" or need a skill, use training. If you want to implement, build momentum, or increase results, use coaching.
